Econ 100B, Fall 2005 Final Exam Concerns, etc. Prof. Charles I. Jones I'm afraid there are too many of you for me to be able to reply individually by email. I will hold office hours on Monday January 23 (not Jan 16 as originally advertised -- that's a holiday) from 1:30-3:00pm if you would like to discuss your grade. You should know that university rules prohibit me from changing your grade unless there is a significant error in its calculation. Also, I was careful in assigning grades to give students close to the margin the "benefit of the doubt" so it is very unlikely that your grade will change in the event of minor mistakes. * Final exams are available in the Economics Department office, Evans 549. You may view your exam there, but once you remove it from that office, no regrade requests can be considered. * Here is some information about the distribution of scores across sections. The first three columns are the ProbSet, Midterm1, and Midterm2, all reported on a 20-point scale (so PS score is multiplied by 2, and the midterm scores are divided by 4). The means for the midterms can be compared to the last column, which reports the final exam scores also on a 20-point scale. You can see, for example, that Andy's sections did especially well on the final, while Day and Si-Yeon's sections had the lowest means. - Out of 20 points each - Final Exam PS Mid1 Mid2 Raw Outof20 --------------------- ----------------- Hannah mean 17.44 15.64 16.28 123.42 13.71 David Mean 17.58 15.37 13.86 124.79 13.87 Andy Mean 19.02 15.34 15.81 135.1 15.01 Day Mean 17.71 14.7 11.81 114.9 12.77 Si-Yeon Mean 17.53 13.02 12.93 114.35 12.71 Shishu mean 18.49 16.5 13.88 115.76 12.86 Dan mean 18.54 15.68 14.81 128.99 14.33 Omar mean 18.94 14.76 14.75 119.62 13.29 * To compute your overall score, I normalized so that both midterms have the same mean and standard deviation as the final exam. I normalized the problem sets to have a mean of 17 in all sections. * The median grade in the course was the B-/B boundary. About 30% of the grades were A/A-, about 30% were some form of B, about 30% were some form of C, 5% D's and 5% F's.
