Abstract (abstract.txt)

The purpose of the abstract is two-fold. First, the abstract provides the key words that make it possible for users to locate the appropriate submissions through text searches. Second, the abstract is a summary of the archive entry, describing the contents in sufficient detail for browsers to decide whether they should download the entire entry. The abstract is available on-line for library patrons. Typically, an ELSA abstract is longer than the normal abstract of a journal article, and bears a close similiarity to the ``executive summary'' of a project's final report.

The abstract should be an ASCII text file, with the filename ``abstract.txt''. Every abstract should contain the following information:

  1. Title.

  2. Names and addresses of authors.

  3. Key words.

  4. Bibliographic reference, when software is part of a published work (for example, a working paper or a journal article).

  5. Brief description of statistical or econometric capabilities.

  6. Requirements:

    1. Operating Systems (DOS, Unix, etc.);

    2. Software application or compiler requirements (Fortran, Gauss, SAS, etc.).

    3. Memory requirements (disk space, RAM).

  7. Description of available technical support (flagging whether/how author wants to be disturbed).

  8. ``Manifest'' listing of all the files contained in the submission.

  9. Version identifier.

  10. A list of changes, corresponding version numbers, and dates.
