The purpose of the abstract is two-fold. First, the abstract provides
the key words that make it possible for users to locate the appropriate
submissions through text searches. Second, the abstract is a summary of
the archive entry, describing the contents in sufficient detail for
browsers to decide whether they should download the entire entry. The abstract is
available on-line for library patrons. Typically, an ELSA abstract is longer than the
normal abstract of a journal article, and bears a close similiarity to
the ``executive summary'' of a project's final report.
The abstract should be an ASCII text file, with the filename
``abstract.txt''. Every abstract should contain the following information:
- Title.
- Names and addresses of authors.
- Key words.
- Bibliographic reference, when software is part of a published work (for
example, a working paper or a journal article).
- Brief description of statistical or econometric capabilities.
- Requirements:
- Operating Systems (DOS, Unix, etc.);
- Software application or compiler requirements (Fortran, Gauss, SAS, etc.).
- Memory requirements (disk space, RAM).
- Description of available technical support (flagging whether/how author wants to be
disturbed).
- ``Manifest'' listing of all the files contained in the submission.
- Version identifier.
- A list of changes, corresponding version numbers, and dates.
