Data comes in assorted shapes, sizes, and flavors. These include:
- Proprietary vs. publicly accessible
- CD ROMs and NFS mounts
- Tapes: .5 inch reel; .25 inch cartridge; 8 mm cartridge; 4 mm cartridge; and so on (the EML can mount any tape except 3480 IBM cartridges, which
only CMS can mount on this campus)
- Online at the EML: /archive and ftp://elsa.berkeley.edu
- Online via the worldwide web (http or ftp)
- Formats:
standard ascii data(columnar or delimited); TSP databank; SAS dataset;
Lotus/Excel; dBASE; binary; tape image (one lengthy line of sequential
data)
